Long Distance

"Equal Access" means you are allowed to choose your long-distance carrier. A list of carriers serving our area is available at Ronan Telephone Company business office or click here to view the list.

Montana is generally divided into three long distance calling areas called LATA's (Local Access Transport Area) shown by the map below.

A long distance call which begins and ends in the same LATA is an "INTRALATA" call (i.e. Ronan or Pablo to Helena). An "INTERLATA" call would be a long distance call which ends in another LATA (i.e. Ronan or Pablo to Billings or Portland OR). you may select a long distance carrier for INTRALATA, INTERLATA, and INTERNATIONAL calls.

RTC Toll is the designated carrier for all call placed within the western LATA at this time.

You may change your long-distance carrier by contacting the Ronan Telephone Company business offices at 406-676-2751. There is a fee of $5 each time a change is made. You must also contact the carrier of your choice. If your long distance carrier does not have all the information they need in their database to bill you properly, they may send your calls to us to bill you "casually." The rates set by long distance companies for casually billed calls are often HIGHER in price than you might expect since a SURCHARGE may be added to the cost of each call. It is IMPORTANT if you decide to change your long distance carrier that you not only notify Ronan Telephone Company of your new choice, but that you contact the carrier DIRECTLY to set up your account with them.

Each long-distance carrier offers a variety of discount calling plans. You are encouraged to call them to see which one offers the best discount plans for your calling needs.

You may receive more than one bill each month for your telephone service.
